The desperately moving tale of Nell Trent (Little Nell) who grows up, cared for by her loving Grandfather, though very soon having to care for him, as his weakness for gambling impoverishes them. Despite the machinations of wicked moneylender Daniel Quilp, they manage to find something like peace, before Nell dies tragically from the exhaustions of her young life, leaving her grandfather grieving by her grave.
