John Goodrum has written original full-length stage plays and full-length stage plays based on stories by Charles Dickens, Bram Stoker, G K Chesterton, Edgar Allan Poe, Arthur Conan Doyle, E W Hornung, Robert Louis Stevenson and Wilkie Collins.

They have all been produced professionally, many on national UK tours.

He has also written professionally produced pantomimes and has adapted several of Dickens' novels for the stage.

The Signalman and The Pit And The Pendulum were both produced by Bill Kenwright at the Theatre Royal, Windsor. The Judges’ House! was produced in Germany and The Nightmare Room has been produced in Illinois and Milwaukee USA. The Black Veil was toured extensively in the UK by Bruce James Productions and Sorry, I Love You ... has been produced throughout England and as far afield as Nairobi in Kenya. The Comedy Of Terrors! was produced in repertoire as part of the 2021 Utah Shakespeare Festival.

John was commissioned by Bridge Theatre to write the original contemporary thriller Blood Relations - first seen at Sheringham Little Theatre - and the Charles Dickens adaptation The Haunted House - first seen at Norwich Playhouse. He was commissioned by Chesterfield Theatres to write The Eleventh Hour for their WW1 centenary production.

Sorry, I Love You… and The Comedy Of Terrors! are both published by Samuel French.

John Goodrum is a founder of Rumpus Theatre Company, for whom his directing credits include Night Must Fall, Duet For One, Quartet, Jumpers, Parlour Song and The Ghost’s Touch!

As an actor, John has worked in theatres nationwide. Parts he has played include Andrew Wyke in Sleuth, Bob Jackson in Pack Of Lies and Fancourt Babberley in Charley’s Aunt. He has played Norman Barthlomew in Anthony Shaffer’s comedy thriller Murderer, Remick in Suddenly At Home and Robert Simon in Simon Gray’s comedy thriller Stage Struck, all at the Theatre Royal, Nottingham, and the title role in nationwide tours of Sherlock Holmes – A Study In Fear! and Sherlock Holmes – The Scandal Of The Scarlet Woman.

On Radio 4 he played James Miller in The Archers.
